School Life

What we do on a daily basis…

“… be transformed by the renewing of your mind…”

~ Romans 12:2

In many ways, education is about routines that foster excellence. This section has been designed to give you a small sample-sized taste of what takes place on our campus. A Day in the Life contains an essay written by a high school student describing an average day. As weekly worship services are an integral part of our week, a description of Chapels can be found here. Just like every family, HSCA has Traditions that set us apart…unique activities that are anticipated every year. And since Classes are the heart and soul of what we do, a brief overview can be found giving you a peek into our classroom.

Classes

At any given moment during the school day in a few dozen rooms, young minds are being stretched and expanded. Were someone able to visit each of these rooms, the journey would reveal the breadth of knowledge being imparted. In Pre-Kindergarten, students might be sounding out consonants. In the Kindergarten room, students could be practicing writing a letter they have just added to their repertoire. Nearby in first grade, students could be jogging in place while quoting a Bible verse they are memorizing. Learners in second grade could be honing their ability to tell time while in grade three, students might be found studying the properties of the multiples of the number five. In grade four, students might be rehearsing lines for an upcoming drama they will be presenting in a chapel service. Students in grade five could be looking at the record of the Acts of the Apostles while sixth grade students diagram sentences and pick apart the structure of grammatical phrasing. A combined Junior High class could be looking at characters found in the Old Testament while a nearby High School Algebra class graphs linear equations on a board. Literature class might be analyzing the static and dynamic characters found in a recently read story. Students in Economics class could be looking at the properties of the distribution of labor while Biology students might be studying cell mitosis. And lastly, the computer lab might hold students animating images that they had recently created just out of earshot of the group of students having private violin lessons across the sidewalk.

All of this would be taking place simultaneously. And this is what we call an average day…

Traditions

Sea Breeze Camp Meeting

Each winter, FEA Ministries hosts Sea Breeze Camp Meeting – an event during which people come from all over the country for ten days of services, special activities, and fellowship. School continues during this time…but with a modified schedule. Students attend daily services and the junior high and high school participate in afternoon athletic activities. Camp meeting is a busy time…but it is also a time of spiritual growth and fellowship!

Singing Christmas Tree

The Singing Christmas Tree is an annual performance hosted by Hobe Sound Bible Church. A large percentage of students and faculty from the academy participate as singers, instrumentalists, and actors. The Singing Christmas Tree is an excellent way to begin the holiday season! It’s a perfect time to meet with neighbors, family, and friends and enjoy a performance that exalts the name of Jesus Christ.

Spirit Week

Spirit Week is a time to show HSCA’s school pride! This is a week set aside to wear silly hats, cute socks, and wacky ties, among other forms of expression. Prizes are awarded in various categories.
Walkathon

Every year, HSCA hosts a Walkathon. This fundraising event allows money to be raised for various school project and a day of enjoyment for both students and teachers. For the last several years, competitions have been held among classes and students with prizes given out to those who gathered the most funds. Awards including electronic devices and field trips were given out to the winners in individual categories.

Fine Arts Competition

Students at HSCA have the opportunity to participate in Fine Arts Competitions sponsored by the Florida Association of Christian Colleges and Schools. Individuals from grades 1-12 have the opportunity to compete in areas such as choral group, band, vocal solo and small group, and academic testing. This affords an excellent opportunity for students to use their talents that God has blessed them with!

Field Day

Field Day is a fun day for all HSCA students. Physical abilities are tested in competitions involving agility, speed, and endurance. It is also a time to enjoy the outdoors and the company of the fellow students.
